Pixie Bobs Tails
The Pixie Bobs are know for a natural Bobtail. The majority of Pixie Bobs do have this fabulous tail however, you don’t know what length the tail will be until they are born. The tail of the Pixie Bob varies as described below.
Bobtail:A cat with a tail between 1-5 inches long.
Hock Length:A cat with a tail to the hock on the back leg.
Rumpy: A very short Bobtail.
Rumpy Riser:A cat who has a small rise at the base of the spine caused by a small piece of cartilage.
Three Quarter:A cat with a tail longer than the hock, but shorter than a standard tail.

All show Pixie Bobs are required to have a Bobtail at least two inches long and no longer than the hock. Longtail Pixie Bobs are not excepted in the show rings although they are used in breeding programs by some if the other traits out weigh the tail.
Although the tail seems to be very random we have over the years discovered by pairing a long tail or ¾ tail Pixie Bob to a Bobtail Pixie Bob we do get a far better percentage of show length tails. We have also had some super show length tails from two long tail parents.
The Pixie Bob is a medium to large cat and the long tail cats, especially the males, do tend to be larger than the Bobtail when fully developed. On the whole the Pixie Bob is a very health breed with no major health issues.
